Beaufort County is pleased to announce that Martin Stevens has been selected as Chief Information Officer (CIO), effective October 12, 2026.

Beaufort County Administrator Michael Moore shared excitement for Mr. Stevens' stepping into the role, stating, "I am thrilled that Martin has joined Beaufort County as Chief Information Officer. In this role he will lead our information technology departments and improve the experience of our residents as they access services and platforms.”

Martin Stevens brings more than two decades of technology leadership across the public and private sectors to his role as Chief Information Officer for Beaufort County. He most recently served as CIO for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and for the Office of Early Learning within the Florida Department of Education, where he led major technology modernization efforts. His experience includes directing complex cross‑agency digital transformations, overseeing enterprise resource planning overhauls, and guiding mission‑critical infrastructure projects that support statewide public services.

A United States Army veteran, Stevens spent seven years in military aviation as a rotary‑wing aircraft mechanic with the 101st Aviation Brigade. This foundation in disciplined operations and team accountability continues to shape his approach to leadership and service. He holds a Bachelor of Science with honors in Computer Science from Middle Tennessee State University, along with professional credentials including Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Kotter Change Management, and Certified Contract Manager certifications.

Having built his career and raised his family throughout the Southeast, Stevens and his wife are proud to call the Lowcountry home. He joins Beaufort County with a deep commitment to public service and a personal appreciation for the region’s natural beauty and historic communities.

"A strong digital foundation gives a community the agility to grow responsibly while protecting its core operations," said Mr. Stevens about the role. "My focus will be on modernizing our systems, strengthening cybersecurity, and ensuring every technology investment directly serves the people who call Beaufort County home."
